What is LitCam?
LitCam – Frankfurt Book Fair Literacy Campaign
LitCam is an international campaign for literacy and basic education which was launched in 2006 by the Frankfurt Book Fair and its partners, the German Federal Association for Literacy and Basic Education and the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning.
In 2007, the Swiss software company “Avallain” joined as a contributing partner. Among its many activities, Avallain develops e-learning tools for literacy and contributes to the “100 Dollar Laptop” project. This partnership helps LitCam address the increasing importance of media literacy.
In cooperation with Google, the “Literacy Site” was created, a customised search engine that gives access to all media concerned with basic education, media literacy and literacy.
“LitCam - Frankfurt Book Fair Literacy Campaign” supports literacy, basic education and media literacy in developing countries and also functional and media literacy in industrialised countries.
Our goals:
- To promote the exchange and networking of organisations in the literacy, basic and media education sectors
- To initiate and support literacy, basic education and media education projects
- To develop and implement self-initiated LitCam projects (e.g. Football Meets Culture)
- To discuss and develop new strategies to support education in industrialised countries, particularly in households that lack a supportive atmosphere for learning
