LitCam Conference 2009: Literacy and Media
One of LitCam’s major aims is the networking and promotion of international exchange. Consequently, the Literacy Campaign is internationally oriented and facilitates cross-border dialogue about new trends and strategies in imparting knowledge.
The LitCam conferences are at the core of LitCam’s networking activities. An International LitCam Conference has taken place every year since 2006, just before the start the Frankfurt Book Fair. In light of a specific theme, organisations from four continents introduce their projects and, at the end of the first day, engage in a podium discussion. The following day, workshops are held in order to delve further into the discussed topics.
This year, the International LitCam Conference will take place on 4 and 5 October 2010. The theme will be “Literacy and Human Rights”. We will provide more information about the 2010 conference in March.
Regional LitCam Conferences are planned in order to strengthen the networking of local organisations.
The first regional LitCam Conference, “Literacy and the Marginalised”, took place on 31 July 2010 in Cape Town at the Cape Town Book Fair.
Further regional LitCam conferences will take place in Sao Paulo (Brazil), Beirut (Lebanon) and in India.
