BildungIn 2006, the Frankfurt Book Fair created a new key focus called “Education for the Future”. As the largest book and media fair worldwide, the Frankfurt Book Fair also takes responsibility for the promotion of  basic education and media literacy.
Therefore it startet the Frankfurt Book Fair Literacy Campaign - LitCam - toghether with the cooperation partners UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning and Bundesverband Alphabetisierung und Grundbildung e.V. Since spring 2010 LitCam is a non profit organisation.

LitCam initiates projects focused on mediating basic skills like reading, writing and arithmetic as well as using (digital) media.
The projects aim at preventing social exclusion through improving chances for disadvantaged groups.

LitCam is led by its mission “Competence for Life”.



ftk_ffmiiLitCam objectives:
To promote international cooperation and networking (e.g. LitCam Conferences)
To inform important decision makers and the general public about the topic (e.g. at public events)
To develop collaborative projects with participating partners
To develop and implement self-initiated projects: Football Meets Culture and Reading and Learning Rooms

Reading and Learning Rooms

In July 2010, the LitCam project „Reading and Learning Rooms“ started in Mfuleni, a township of Cape Town. Today, there are also “Reading and Learning Rooms” in neighbouring Khayelitsha.[more]
