“Football meets Culture” in Frankfurt: go girl, go!
New LitCam project at Frankfurt`s Albert Schweitzer School with a girls-only group
World Cup holder Nia Künzer is the ambassador for the new Frankfurt Book Fair Literacy Campaign (LitCam) “Football meets Culture” project which began on 1 September as the first project with a girls-only group. Two groups made up of a total of 24 children at the Albert Schweitzer School, Frankfurter Berg, will have professional football training and additional special lessons twice a week throughout the school year 2010/2011. One of the groups consists of girls only. “Football is a wonderful sport and I'm always delighted when girls get enthusiastic about it: you learn fair play and team spirit because you can only play successfully when each individual thinks and acts for the team”, says Nia Künzer. “In Football meets Culture, the enjoyment of sport is combined with the enjoyment of learning. For me, it was immediately obvious that I would like to be involved here as an ambassador.”
The project at the Albert Schweitzer School is sponsored by the Hesse Ministry of the Interior and Sport as well as the national football league's foundation, the Bundesliga-Stiftung. “The charm of the Football meets Culture project is that through football, children are motivated to get to grips with things that increase their personal opportunities in society. That was the decisive reason for us to support the projects”, says Kurt Gaugler, executive board member of the Bundesliga-Stiftung.
“We are very pleased indeed that thanks to the financial support of our sponsors, we have now been able to establish a second Football meets Culture project in Frankfurt”, notes Karin Plötz, director, LitCam. The first project was launched in 2007 at the Karmeliterschule – Carmelite School - in Frankfurt. On the football side, the cooperation partner is the football club 1st FFC Frankfurt e.V.. The youth trainer for 1st FFC, Sandro Perri, is in charge of training the two groups. The corresponding classroom lessons are given by teacher Kai Wachs.
